Before arranging a mobile notary, make sure every signer can attend in person and knows what document they are signing. This checklist helps prevent a wasted trip; the assigned notary makes the final decision under Texas law.
For each signer
- Plan for the signer to appear in person, with the complete document.
- Bring a current identification document with photograph and signature that meets Texas requirements, such as an eligible state ID or U.S. passport.
- Tell the provider in advance if ID is unavailable or unusual. Texas rules also allow personal knowledge or a credible witness in specified circumstances; do not assume one will be accepted without discussing the facts with the notary.
- Wait to sign if the document calls for a witnessed signature or an oath.
For the document and extra witnesses
Ask the document's preparer or receiving organization which notarial act and how many separate witnesses it requires. A notary's seal does not replace a witness signature. Arrange independent witnesses if needed and confirm the location allows them. The notary cannot draft the document, select the legal form, or advise you on its effect.
Before anyone travels
Confirm the meeting address directly with the assigned provider, the appointment time, the itemized quote, and any access or parking instructions. Use the online request for a general description only; do not send images of IDs, medical records, or the full document.
